Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = Lower Shotgun and Little Shotgun creeks drain Upper Jurassic to Upper Triassic(?) crystal tuff, argillite, chert, graywacke, and limestone. The upper parts of the creeks drain Upper Devonian serpentinite, basalt, chert, and gabbro, in thrust contact with Lower Jurassic and Upper Triassic sandstone and siltstone (Wilson and others, 1998). Capps (1919) reports that placer gold is present, but mining has not been successful.
  • Age = Quaternary.
