Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = Mining claims were staked on Independence Creek in 1900 (Heiner and Porter, 1972, Kardex site Kx 52-88). The creek was visited by Collier and his associates in 1903; there was no activity at that time, but there was considerable evidence of previous placer gold mining and prospecting along the creek (Collier and others, 1908, p. 217). Descriptions of the placer deposits have not been reported. Paleozoic marble bedrock is locally exposed in the drainage (Sainsbury and others, 1972 [OFR 72-321]).
