Economic information

Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = Phosphate deposits restricted to black chert and shale unit of the Alapha Limestone of late Mississippian age. Phosphate rock and phosphorites occur within a section of interbedded oolitic to pisolitic limestone, chert, and shale. Marked variation in lithologic character of phosphate content. Fluorite was a constituent of all samples studied.
  • Age = Mississippian

Development status Occurrence
Commodity type Non-metallic

Comments on exploration

  • Status = Inactive

Mining district

District name Colville

Comments on the workings information

  • Workings / Exploration = A 36 ft thick sequence averages 8% P2O5; a 43 in. thick sequence averages 21% P2O5; and 6 beds, none more than 5.5 in. thick, contain 30% P2O5. Samples analyzed for vanadium contained .04% - .10% V2O5. Samples collected by USBM contained up to 23% phosphate with 1035 ppm V.
