Economic information

Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = Rhyolite dikes <100 feet (30.5 m) thick intrude argillite in a sequence of phyllite siltstone and quartzite. Small gossans occur in argillite; pyrite locally occurs in quartzite (Barker, 1981, p. 81).

Mining district

District name Sheenjek

Comments on the workings information

  • Workings / Exploration = Sedimentary rocks contain up to 26 ppm Ag, 2200 ppm Zn, 2% Cu and 1.5% Pb (Brosge and Reiser 1968). Small gossan yields 1100 ppm Cu, 11.2% Pb, 6700 ppm Zn, 115 ppm Ag, 1.8 ppm U and 7.5 ppm Th. Pyritic quartzite contains 68 ppm Cu, 610 ppm Pb, 390 ppm Zn. Soils contain <83 ppm Cu, 420 ppm Pb, 270 ppm Zn (Barker, 1981, p. 81-8).
