Deposit CORUTO IS A SALINE LAKE WITH WITH EXTENSIVE SALT CRUSTS DEVELOPED IN THE NORTHEASTERN PART OF ITS BASIN. AT LEAST 13 SPRINGS WITHIN BOLIVIA SUPPLY WATER TO L. CORUTO'S BASIN, SOME SOURCE WATERS ORIGINATE IN ARGENTINA. AT LEAST ONE OF THE SPRINGS ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE LAGUNA, HAD ELEVATED VALUES OF B, LI, SR, K, NA, CA, AND BA THAT EXCEDED THAT CONCENTRATIONS IN THE SAMPLE OF WATER FROM THE LAGUNA.
