| Deposit | LAKE IS VERY SMALL AND ONLY SLIGHTLY SALINE. RISACHER AND FRITZ CLASSIFY THIS SITE AS A LAKE WITH A NA-CL-(CO3) BRINE. LAGUNA CATALCITO HAS A GRAVELLY MARGIN WITHOUT EVAPORITIC PRECIPITATES. HOWEVER, THE CURRENT LAKE LEVEL (4555 M BY ALTIMETER UNCORRECTED FOR BAROMETRIC PRESSURE) IS APPROXIMATELY 5 M BELOW THE HIGHEST ASSOICATED TERRACE (4560 M) AND 1 M BELOW AN INTERMEDIATE TERRACE. THE LAKE IS FED BY RIO NOVILLITO, WHICH IN TURN IS FED BY A CHAIN OF VERY SMALL LAKES THAT DESCEND FROM A SPRING ISSUING FROM LAVA ON THE SIDE OF CERRO TOTORAL. |
