Deposit DEPOSIT IS A SALINE (NA-CA-CL-SO4) PLAYA LAKE. THE SALAR AREA IS 3.1 SQ KM, THE SURFACE WATER AREA 2.1 SQ KM, AVERAGE DEPTH 20 CM, AND VOLUME 400,000 CUBIC METERS. THE NATIVE SULFUR IS BELIEVED TO HAVE FORMED FROM THE REDUCTION OF GYPSIFEROUS SEDIMENTS BY BACTERIA (BALLIVIAN AND RISACHER, 1981).
