| Deposit | HEDLUND AND OLSON'S (1974) GEOLOGIC MAP SHOWS QUARRY TO LIE IN MAIN BODY OF GRANITE OF SOUTH BEAVER CREEK JUST NORTH OF SEQUENCE OF SCHIST AND AMPHIBOLITE THAT BORDER NORTH EDGE OF DUBOIS GREENSTONE BELT. GRANITE BODY HAS INTRUDED METAMORPHICS GENERALLY ALONG SCHISTOSITY, WITH FOLIATION OF LARGE MASSES OF ENCLOSED SCHIST AND AMPHIBOLITE TRENDING GENERALLY NW ON FAR SW LIMB OF UNNMAED NW-TRENDING SYNCLINE. EAST-WEST-TRENDING CAMBRO-ORDOVICIAN DIABASE DIKES CUTS GRANITE, SCHIST, AND AMPHIBOLITE JUST NORTH OF QUARRY. HUNTER (1914) DESCRIBES ROCK AS "GRAY GRANITE" APPROACHING QUARTZ DIORITE IN COMPOSITION, MEDIUM-GRAINED, EVEN-TEXTURED, ALLOTRIOMORPHIC, HARD, COMPACT, AND EASILY WORKED. GRANITE REPORTEDLY HAD PROMINENT RIFT (JOINTING?) TRENDING N 60 W, AND ALONG WHICH IT SLABBED EASILY. |
