Comments on the workings information

  • APPROXIMATELY 19000 FT OF UNDERGROUND WORKINGS WERE COMPLETED AS OF 1912. THIS FIGURE EXCLUDES THE 7200 FT LONG ALLIANCE TUNNEL AND THE 1700 FT LONG AETNA AND ANTELOPE TUNNELS. LOCATION GIVEN FOR CARD IS THE PORTAL OF THE DEMOCRAT TUNNEL. THREE SHAFTS ARE PRESENT IN THE MINE AREA, ONE OF WHICH IS THE BOSS SHAFT. NINE PROSPECTS ARE ALSO IN THE MINE AREA. WORKINGS STRADDLE THE GAP BETWEEN PIONEER AND CRESCENT RIDGES. WORKINGS DEVELOP THE CRESCENT FISSURE ZONE OVER A STRIKE LENGTH OF 3000 FT AND A VERTICAL DISTANCE OF 1500 FT. WORKINGS ARE CONNECTED WITH THE SILVER KING WORKINGS VIA THE ALLIANCE TUNNEL

Comments on development

  • FIRST CLAIMS IN AREA LOCATED BY RUFUS WALKER AND ORE DISCOVERED BY EPHRAIM HANKS IN 1869. IN 1870, THE GREEN MONSTER, PINON, AND BUCKEYE CLAIMS WERE LOCATED ALONG THE CREST OF PIONEER RIDGE. ORE SHIPPED BY THE PINON AND WALKER AND WEBSTER MINES UNTIL 1875. IN 1880, THE REBELLION AND CLIMAX MINES HIT ORE NORTH OF PIONEER RIDGE. IN 1882, THE CLIMAX, REBELLION, PINON, WALKER, AND BUCKEYE MINES WERE CONSOLIDATED UNDER THE NAME CRESCENT. CRESCENT MINE ACTIVE UNTIL 1891. IN 1903, ALL PROPERTIES ALONG THE CRESCENT FISSURE WERE UNITED TO FORM THE KEARNS-KEITH MINE. KEARNS-KEITH CONSOLIDATED WITH THE SILVER KING COALITION MINES CO. IN 1908 AND WITH UNITED PARK CITY MINES IN 1953

General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit ORE FIRST DISCOVERED ON PROPERTY WAS REPLACEMENT ORE IN THE THAYNES FORMATION AT THE FOOTWALL OF THE CRESCENT FISSURE ZONE. LATER WORKINGS DEVELOPED MAINLY REPLACEMENT TYPE ORES IN THE THAYNES AND PARK CITY FORMATIONS. REPLACEMENT ORE WITHIN 150 FT OF THE CRESCENT FAULT ZONE. REPLACEMENT ORES HOSTED BY PURE LIMESTONE LENSES BETWEEN SANDSTONES OR IMPURE LIMESTONES, JENNY BED OF THE PARK CITY FORMATION PRODUCED THE MOST ORE. VEIN ORE BODIES LOCATED IN SHOOTS ALONG THE CRESCENT FISSURE ZONE
