Comments on development

  • FIRST PRODUCITON: JULY, 1929. DREDGING FOR TIN BY NORTHERN TAVOY TIN DREDGING, LTD. (SKINNER, W.E., 1931). NEW DREDGE COMMENCED WORK IN EARLY 1981. ACTIVE DEVELOPMENT IN MINE: IN 1977, INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION (IDA), AN AFFILIATE OF THE WORLD BANK, GRANTED A CREDIT OF SOME $16 MILLION TO EXPAND TIN AND TUNGSTEN PRODUCTION. THIS WAS TO FINANCE THE FOREIGN EXCHANGE COSTS OF THE $27 MILLION PROJECT IN THE HEINZE BASIN (STAFF, BURMA-MORE OUTWORD LOOKING, 1977). FIVE NEW GRAVEL PUMP MINES OPERATING BY 1983. ACTIVE EXPLORATION IN DISTRICT: WORK CARRIED OUT UNDER UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME. AS OF 1930, THE 520 ACRES (OUT OF 4,980 ACRES IN AND AROUND THE MEINZE BASIN) OF ALLUVIAL TIN PROPERTIES SELECTED FOR WORKING BY NORTHERN TAVOY TIN DREDGING, LTD. WERE ESTIMATED AT 22,000,000 CUBIC YARDS WITH AN AVERAGE VALUE OF 0.73 LBS. PER CUBIC YARD EQUAL TO 7,170 TONS IN CONCENTRATE (SKINNER, W.E., 1931). ONE DREDGE HAD A NOMINAL CAPACITY OF 750,000 CUBIC YARDS/YEAR, THE OTHER
