Comments on the location information

  • SNIDER (1912, P. 95) SAID THAT THIS PROSPECT WAS ABOUT 5 MI W. OF THE STARLEY PROSPECT (WHICH WAS NEAR C-25-3N-14W). SNIDER LOCATED THE COPPER EAGLE W. OF THE AMERICAN GIRL PROSPECT (WHICH WAS IN THE SW-NE-SE-NE-21-3N-14W, ABOUT 3 MI WNW OF THE STARLEY). THEREFORE, THE COPPER EAGLE MUST BE ABOUT 2 MI W. OR NW OF THE AMERICAN GIRL, WHICH WOULD BE IN THE FRENCH LAKE AREA OR IN SECS. 17, 18, 19, 20-3N-14W. THIS IS CLOSE TO THE BONANZA MINE (NEAR THE W. QUARTER CORNER OF SEC. 19-3N-14W), SHOWN ON THE QUANAH MTN. QUAD., AND MENTIONED BY WILSON (1976, P. 174; 1980, P. 15), WHERE A SMELTER WAS ERECTED IN 1906 BY T.E. COOK AND SON BERT. POSSIBLY, THIS WAS THE SAME AS AN EARLIER MINE MENTIONED BY WOODRUFF (1904, P. 27) AS THE PARKER BROTHERS MINE, 7 MI NW OF CACHE, ACTIVELY BEING WORKED FOR GALENA AT 56 FT, WITH AN ASSAY OF 6.1% GALENA.

General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit SNIDER (1912, P. 95) MENTIONED THAT THE MINE WAS VISITED AND THAT IT HAD MALACHITE STAINS. HOWEVER, THERE IS NO ACCURATE LOCATION OTHER THAN ABOUT 5 MI W. OF THE STARLEY MINE. I WILL ASSUME IT IS THE BONANZA MINE AND ALSO THE PARKER BROTHERS MINE, BUT ALL OF THESE COULD BE DIFFERENT.
