Comments on the location information

  • ACCORDING TO WILSON (1976, P. 174), A 9 FT, 4 TON SMELTER WAS BUILT ABOUT 0.5 MI TO THE NW OF THIS SHAFT IN 1906 BY A MR. OLIVE WELLS, SW OF KETCH LAKE, IN THE SE-SE-SE-NE-30-3N-13W. POSSIBLY, THE SHAFT WAS STARTED MUCH EARLIER THAN 1909. WOODRUFF (1904, P. 27) MENTIONED THAT THE WESTON BEAVER MINING CO. HAD SUNK A SHAFT 40 FT DEEP, ABOUT 8.5 MI NE OF CACHE, WHICH, BY ROAD, MAY HAVE BEEN THIS SHAFT.

Comments on the geologic information

  • THE DIKE, CUTTING THROUGH THE GRANITE, STRIKES NE. IT PROBABLY CONCENTRATED THE METALS, POSSIBLY FOLLOWING AN OLDER HYDROTHERMAL VEIN. GILBERT AND MYERS (1986) MAP THE QUANAH GRANITE IN THIS AREA. SCHOONOVER (1948) MAPPED SEVERAL TYPES OF GRANITES IN THE AREA.
