  • THE TUNNEL WAS ABOUT 75 FT ABOVE ROAD LEVEL AND WAS MARKED BY A LONE COTTONWOOD TREE IN 1936. THE TREE COULD BE SEEN FROM LOVER'S GAP.

  • AFTER LUGERT GRANITE WAS INTRUDED, LATER COPPER SOLUTIONS IN HYDROTHERMAL VEINS CUT THROUGH THE GRANITE. THE COPPER MINERALS WERE LATER OXIDIZED TO AZURITE AND MALACHITE. IF THIS ROCK WAS WEATHERED, THE COPPER IONS COULD HAVE BEEN INCORPORATED INTO THE HENNESSEY SEA. POLK (1948) AND MERRITT (1958) DISCUSS GEOLOGY.

  • THE ADIT WAS DUG EASTERLY INTO THE SIDE OF FLAT TOP MTN.

Comments on development

  • EBEN AND WINNETT SAID THAT 45 FT OF THE TUNNEL WAS COLLAPSED IN 1936. THEY TOOK SOME SAMPLES AFTER CRAWLING THROUGH A SMALL HOLE INTO PART OF THE TUNNEL. RYAN (1936, SHEET KR-24) SAID THAT THE ADIT WAS OPENED IN 1906.
