  • RYAN AND WINNETT (1936, SHEET 2002) SHOWED THIS PROSPECT PIT AND ANOTHER ABOUT 800 FT NW IN THE S. SIDE OF TABLE TOP MOUNTAIN. THEIR MAP MAY BE INACCURATE. POLK (1948) AND MERRITT (1958) MAPPED THE GEOLOGY OF THE AREA. WILSON (1976, P. 110-127) DISCUSSES THE HISTORY OF THE AREA. THE SPANISH DUG IN THIS AREA SINCE 1765. THE SPANISH HOUSES WERE AROUND LOC. A, ON THE NW SIDE OF THE CANYON. SPANISH MINERS WERE ACTUALLY SEEN WORKING IN 1833 BY COCKRELL.
