Comments on the location information

  • IN BLOCK A-169, HOUSTON, TAP, AND BRAZORIA R.R. CO. SURVEY, AND IN BLOCK A-1572, SOUTHERN PACIFIC R.R. CO. SURVEY. ELEVATION GIVEN ABOVE IS AT TOP OF TABLETOP MOUNTAIN. (THE COPPER PROBABLY OCCURS AT ABOUT 1300-1350 FT.) (THE WICHITA RIVER IS AT EL. 1140 FT, ABOUT 4.5 MI N.) THE COPPER WAS REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN FOUND AT THE BASE OF THE MOUNTAIN, BUT I DO NOT KNOW HOW FAR DOWN. CUMMINS (1891, P. 453) MEASURED 100 FT OF BEDS HERE, WITH A LIMESTONE AT THE TOP, BUT DID NOT MENTION WHERE THE COPPER WAS FOUND. HE ALSO MEASURED A 35-FT SECTION, 3 MI TO THE NW OF THE TABLETOP SECTION, 0.75 MI W. OF THE CLEMMON SHAFT, WITH COPPER NODULES IN A CONGLOMERATE 1 FT THICK, ABOUT 6 FT OF RED-BROWN SHALE AND SANDSTONE.
