ESCARPMENT OF WICHITA RIVER, ABOUT 1.5 MI NW OF RIVER. FURMAN (1881, P. 19) MENTIONS THIS AREA. BUCKLEY (1868, P. 79-82; 1874, P. 39-40) MENTIONS THAT HE EXAMINED THE COPPER ORES IN 1861 IN THE NW PART OF CLAY COUNTY, NEAR THE MOUTH OF THE BIG WICHITA, NOT FAR FROM THE RED RIVER.
