Comments on the location information

  • LAT. AND LONG. GIVEN ABOVE ARE FOR SITE 3. FOR SITE 4, THEY ARE 33-01-25N AND 099-35-53. BOTH SITES 3 AND 4 ARE IN THE W.M. TAYLOR SURVEY. THE TAYLOR SEC. IS 1.5 MI N-S BY ABOUT 2 MI E-W. LAKE STAMFORD IS ON PAINT CREEK. THESE LOCALITIES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE DRAINAGE OF PAINT CREEK, ON THE DIVIDE BETWEEN PAINT CREEK AND CALIFORNIA CREEK (TO THE SE). ROESSLER USED THE NAME PAINT CREEK FOR CALIFORNIA CREEK, AND USED THE NAME OTEY'S CREEK FOR WHAT IS NOW PAINT CREEK. CUMMINS (1891, P. 405) HAS 2 MEASURED SECTIONS HERE (12, 13), THE LATTER THE SAME AS THAT ON P. 452. CUMMINS (1893, P. 233) ALSO HAS MEASURED SECTION HERE.
