  • ELEVATION IS 990 FT AT TOP OF BLUFFS ALONG RED RIVER; IT IS 960 FT AT BASE OF BLUFFS ALONG RED RIVER ON MCFARLAND SPRING. LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE GIVEN ABOVE ARE ON THE MCFARLAND SPRING NEAR C. OF TRACT. THE TRACT IS IRREGULAR, LIKE TWO TRIANGLES, ABOUT 2 MILES E-W, BY 0.5 MI N-S ON THE W. END AND 0.25 MI N-S ON THE E. END. GILBERT CREEK CUTS THROUGH THE BLUFFS ABOUT 600 FT WEST OF THE PROPERTY, BUT HUGS THE SOUTH BANK FOR 7 MILES, AT TIMES BECOMING PART OF THE RED RIVER. THIS AREA CONTAINS MANY WELLS FOR THE WATER SUPPLY FOR BURKBURNETT. THERE ARE MANY SPRINGS ALONG THE BLUFFS, PROBABLY FROM THE RYAN SANDSTONES. SEVERAL ROADS CUT DOWN THROUGH THE BLUFFS ON THIS PROPERTY, ANY ONE OF WHICH COULD HAVE EXPOSURES OF THE COPPER BEDS. THIS IS ABOUT 2-3 MILES SE OF THE CLINTON BYERS FARM, OR EASTMAN PROSPECT, IN SEC. 30-5S-12E, OF COTTON COUNTY, OKLAHOMA.

Deposit THE COPPER COULD BE WIDESPREAD BUT SPORADIC.
Deposit DE CORDOVA (1858, P. 99, 293; LECTURE ON TEXAS, P. 21) IS MAIN REFERENCE. ROESSLER (1874, MAP) AND CUMMINS (1893, P. 233) ALSO SHOW THIS LOCALITY, AND CUMMINS MENTIONED THAT THERE WERE COPPER PROSPECTS THERE, NEAR MOUTH OF GILVERT CREEK, ON THE RED RIVER. THIS IS IN THE PETROLIA FORMATION (OR CLAYPOOL, OR WELLINGTON, OR RYAN SANDSTONE).
