Comments on the location information

  • ELEVATION GIVEN ABOVE IS AT BASE OF BUTTE; ELEVATION IS 1070 FT AT TOP OF BUTTE. SECTION IS IN PALO PINTO COUNTY SCHOOL LAND SURVEY. THE "SECTION" IS ACTUALLY A QUARTER SECTION, OR 160 ACRES. CUMMINS (1891, P. 403) MEASURED HIS SECTION 32 ABOUT 12 MILES SW OF WICHITA FALLS. CUMMINS (1908) SAID THAT MT. BARRY WAS 10 MI SW OF WICHITA FALLS. CUMMINS (1891, PL. 18) SHOWS HIS COPPER OCCURRENCES TO BE AT HIS MT. BARRY AND ABOUT A MILE E. OF MT. BARRY, SO MEASURED SEC. 32 WOULD BE SEVERAL MILES SW OF MT. BARRY. I WAS UNABLE TO FIND A MEASURED SECTION THAT DESCRIBES THESE COPPER OCCURRENCES. THEY WOULD BE IN THE PETROLIA FORMATION. FURMAN (1881, P. 18-19) MENTIONS THE OCCURRENCES IN WICHITA COUNTY.
