Comments on the workings information

  • ORE IS SELECTIVELY MINED FROM A OPEN PIT; SEPARATED BY OPTICAL SORTING; FROTH FLOTATION IS THEN USED TO PRODUCE A CALCITE FLOAT AND A WOLLASTONITE SINK.

Comments on development

  • THE LIMESTONE IS WORKED FOR CEMENT IN TWO QUARRIES, ONE ON EACH SIDE OF THE WOLLASTONITE ZONE. THE WOLLASTONITE ORE IS CRUSHED AND THE CALCITE AND FE-SILICATES REMOVED IN A 2-STAGE FLOTATION PROCESS. WOLLASTONITE HAS BEEN PRODUCED SINCE THE 1950'S; LIMESTONE SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE CENTURY.

General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit Discovery Year: EARLY 1900'S
Deposit GENERAL SHORT-FIBER WOLLASTONITE OCCURS AS A NORTH-SOUTH ZONE THROUGH LIMESTONE AND DIPS CONFORMABLY WITH THE LIMESTONE. WOLLASTONITE ZONE IS APPROXIMATELY 150 FT THICK AND GREATER THAN 2000 FT LONG. THE WOLLASTONITE BEDS ARE 0.5 IN TO 3. FT THICK. WOLLASTONITE AVERAGES 18-20% OF THE LIMESTONE HOST BUT MAY BE AS MUCH AS 60%.
