Comments on the reserve resource information

  • THE HEAVY MINERAL GRADE IS BASE ON AN ESTIMATED 18.3 MT CONTAINED HEAVY MINERALS IN THE ORE. THE IMPORTANT HEAVY MINERAL COMPONENTS ARE ILMENITE (60%), ZIRCON (12%), AND RUTILE (5%). THERE ARE ALSO VIABLE QUANTITIES OF LEUCOZENE AND MONAZITE. 1991 RESERVES ARE CONSIDERED SUFFICIENT FOR 20 YEARS. ADDITIONAL, UNSPECIFIED RESERVES AT JURIEN BAY COULD EXTEND THE PROJECT FOR A FUTHER 10 YEARS.

Comments on the workings information

  • DREDGING

Comments on development

  • MINING BEGAN IN EARLY 1990. TIO2 CORP. STARTED A DRILLING PROGRAM IN 1985 OF 3,200 HOLES AND ASSAYED 80,000 M OF CORE SAMPLES. ; ECON.COM: A 12 MT/Y DREDGE HAS BEEN COMMISSIONED. A MINE AND WET CONCENTRATOR WILL BE LOCATED AT COOLJARLOO AND A DRY MILL AT CHANDALA (60 KM N OF PERTH). THE MILL WILL ANNUALLY PRODUCE APPROXIMATELY 400,000 T ILMENITE, 35,000 T RUTILE, 9,000 T LEUCOXENE, 600 T ZIRCON, AND 1,000 MONAZITE. SYNTHETIC RUTILE PLANT DUE ONSTREAM AT CHANDALA IN LATE 1990 AND PIGMENT PLANT IN LATE 1991.

Deposit THE HEAVY MINERAL SANDS WERE ERODED FROM GRANITE AND WAHED DOWN TO THE WESTERN AUSTRALIA COAST SOME 200 MILLION YEARS AGO. THESE SANDS OCCUR IN A 500 KM BELT FROM SOUTH OF BUSSELTON TO NORTH OF ENEABBA. THE COOLJARLOO DEPOSITS EXTEND OVER A LENGTH OF 189 KM AND COVER AN AREA OF ABOUT 60 SQ KM. THE HIGHEST GRADE ORE IS IN THE SOUTHERN 27,000 T ZONE THAT GRADES 6.7% HEAVY MINERALS AND WILL BE MINED FIRST. THE DEPOSITS ARE UP TO 30 M BELOW THE WATER TABLE. THE DEPOSIT IS RELATIVELY FREE OF LARGE, HARD GRANITE BOULDERS.
