Comments on the geologic information

  • THE MARINE SEDIMENTS CAN BE DIVIDED INTO 4 MEMBERS: BARREN DIATOMITE, UPPER DIATOMITE AND PHOSPHORITE, CLAM BORE SANDSTONE, LOWER DIATOMITE AND PHOSPHORITE.
  • THE DEPOSITS ARE FOUND IN A LTERT VOLCANICLASTIC SEQUENCE. THE LOWER PART OF THE SEQUENCE IS COMPOSED OF RHYOLITE AND OBSIDIAN. THE UPPER PART OF THE SEQUENCE CONSISTS OF SLIGHTLY MARLY AND THINLY BEDDED LIMESTONES WITH INTERCALATIONS OF BENTONITIC CLAYS, TUFFS, AND AT LEAST ONE BORATE HORIZON.

Deposit THERE ARE 3 MAIN ZONES OF MINERALIZATION: THE DIANA PHOSPHATE ZONE IN THE LOWER DIATOMITE AND PHOSPHORITE LAYER; THE ZERO ZONE IN THE UPPER DIATOMITE AND PHOSPHORITE LAYER; AND THE MINERVA ZONE IN THE UPPER DIATOMITE AND PHOSPHORITE LAYER. THE PHOSPHORITE IS INTERBEDDED AND SOMETIMES INTERMIXED WITH DIATOMITE, AS WELL AS SANDSTONE AND TUFF. THE DIANA ZONE, THE RICHEST AND THICKEST OF THE 3 MINERALIZED ZONES, CONSISTS OF TWO PHOSPHATE-RICH UNITS SEPARATED BY A DIATOMITE LAYER. THE UPPER UNIT AVERAGES 30 FT THICK AND 7.3% P2O5; THE LOWER 18 FT THICK AND7-15% P2O5. THE ZERO ZONE CONSITS MAINLY OF THE ZERO PHOSPHORITE BED, IS PORRLY SORTED, AND AVERAGES 6.3 M THICK AND 9% P2O5. THE MINERVA ZONE CONTAINS 1 OR 2 PHOSPHATE UNITS, ABUNDANT FOSSILS, IS POORLY SORTED, AND AVERAGES 26 M THICK AND 5.2% P2O5.
Deposit THIS RECORD CONTAINS DATA FROM DUPLICATE RECORDS W700075 AND ISM0384 OF ULRICH KRAUSS WHICH HAVE BEEN DELETED FROM MRDS.
Deposit INCLUDES THE DIANA, ZERO, AND MINERVA PHOSPHATE ZONES.
