General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit DIATOMITE OVERLIES UP TO 9 M OF MULTI-COLORED CLAY AND IS OVERLAIN BY BASALTIC SOIL WITH LARGE ANGULAR QUARTZ FRAGMENTS AND CLAY. IMPURE DIATOMITE (UP TO 6 M THICK) DIRECTLY OVERLIES THE CLAY. THE IMPURE DIATOMITE IS OVERLAIN BY UP TO 5.5 M OF WHITE AND LIGHT-BROWN DIATOMITE. THE DIATOMITE SEQUENCE IS UP TO 13 M THICK AND DIPS GENTLY (0-5 DEG) EAST. THE DIATOMITE IS WELL-LAMINATED TO MASSIVE WITH CLAY PARTINGS AND ORGANIC RESIDUES ASSOCIATED WITH ZONES OF BRECCIATION. SPONGE SPICULES ARE COMMON IN PARTS OF THE DEPOSIT. THE DEPOSIT IS PART OF CENOZOIC LAKE BUNYAN DEPOSITS WHICH EXTEND FROM BREDBO 30 KM SOUTHEAST TO COOMA. THE DIATOMITE DEPOSITS ARE IN THE UPPERMOST PART OF THESE SEDIMENTS AND ARE RESTRICTED TO A SMALL EMBAYMENT IN MIDDLE FLAT CREEK VALLEY.
