Comments on the geologic information

  • THRUST FAULTING, WEATHERING; MMIO-PLIO; GRNR AND OTHER HYDRATED NI-MG SILICATES + CRMT; MINERALIZATION OCCURS IN LATERITE MANTLE WHICH HAS DEVELOPED OVER A MAFIC-ULTRAMAFIC COMPLEX UNDER FAVOURABLE WEATHERING CONDITIONS AND BY SECONDARY ENRICHMENT FROM CIRCULATING GROUNDWATER. FIELDS G2-G5 AND G8-G11 ABOVE REFER TO THE ULTRAMAFIC SOURCE ROCK. LATERITE COMPRISES 3 LAYERS (FROM THE TOP): CHROMITE-RICH LIMONITE; NI-CO RICH LIMONITE; NI-RICH SAPROLITE.

Economic information about the deposit and operations

Ownership information

  • Type Owner-Operator
Owner The Ministry Of Heavy Industry And Mining (State Owned)

Comments on development

  • NON-GEOLOGIC CONSTRAINTS ON DEVELOPMENT OR EXPANSION IN 1-5 YRS. ( TRANSPORT/ACCESS;). EXPLORATION(YES); ASSESSMENT(SHORT-TERM DEVELOPMENT OF DEPOSIT UNLIKELY BECAUSE OF LOW GRADE AND POOR MARKET OUTLOOK FOR NICKEL. LATERITIC DEPOSITS HAVE SPECIAL TREATMENT PROBLEMS.); STUDIES CONTINUING TO DETERMINE FEASIBILITY OF VARIOUS DEVELOPMENT OPTIONS, SUCH AS SELECTIVE MINING OF CHROMITE.
