| Deposit | THIS RECORD WAS COMPILED FOR THE INTERNATIONAL STRATEGIC MINERALS INVENTORY. THE DATA WERE USED IN PREPARATION OF THE USGS CIRCULAR 930 SERIES OF REPORTS. MINERAL RESOURCE CATEGORIES AND CODES HEREIN ARE FROM THE INTERNATIONAL CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM RECOMMENDED BY THE UNITED NATIONS GROUP OF EXPERTS ON DEFINITIONS AND TERMINOLOGY FOR MINERAL RESOURCES. (SEE NATIONAL RESOURCES FORUM, V. 4, NO. 3, P. 307-313.). AT LEAST 28 GRAPHITE DEPOSITS WERE KNOWN ABOUT 1945 IN CHINA. MAINLY PRODUCING AMORPHOUS OR MICROCRYSTALLINE GRAPHITE. MAIN PRODUCTION AT THAT TIME WAS IN HELONGJIANG AND HONAN PROVINCES. HELONGJIANG-PRODUCTION IN 1944 WAS 12000 TONNES, 510 TONNES WERE PRODUCED 1933 IN HONAN-DEPOSITS CHENHSIEN-DEPOSIT/HUNAN PROVINCE PRODUCED 300 TONNES IN 1940. A LARGE GRAPHITE MINE (RESOURCES ESTIMATED 1 MILLION TONNES OF 84 % FC ORE) WAS DEVELOPED IN 1940 NEAR YENTUNGHAN/KIRIN-PROVINCE (43 DEG 17'N; 125 DEG 59'E) AT PRESENT MAJOR PORTION OF CRYSTALLINE GRAPHITE PRODUCTION IS FROM SHANDONG |
