  • ; ZRCN + ILMN + RUTL, MNZT + ATS (+ QTZ); THE DEPOSIT CONSITS OF FIVE ROUGHLY PARALLEL STRANDLINES. THE DEPOSIT IS ABOUT 10 KM IN LENGTH, 500 M WIDE, AND ABOUT 5M THICK. HEAVY MINERAL CONTENT OF THE SAND IS 2-3%. MESOZOIC GRANITE TO THE WEST IS THE SOURCE ROCK.

  • ONLY 10% OF THE AVAILABLE 7 MILLION TONS OF ILMENITE RICH TAILINGS GENERATED EACH YEAR ARE USED TO RECOVER ILMENITE. A TEN-FOLD INCREASE IN ILMENITE PRODUCTION WOULD BE POSSIBLE. THERE ARE PLANS TO INCREASE THE PRODUCTION OF ILMENITE CONCENTRATE AND DEVELOP A 10 000 TPA TI SPONGE METAL PLANT. A PIGMENT PLANT AND A HYDROELECTRIC FACILITY ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. X10THE ILMENITE IS RECLAIMED FROM THE TAILINGS PRODUCED IN CONCENTRATING MAGNETITE (8.5% TIO2). ONLY 10% OF THE TAILINGS ARE USED. THE RECOVERY PROCESS IS VERY INEFFICIENT (28% TIO2 IN TAILINGS) AND COULD BE SUBSTANTIALLY IMPROVED. THIS FIGURE ASSUMES TWO YEARS OF PRODUCTION AT THE 50 000 TONS/YEAR RATE.
