ESTIMATE USES 90% OF TOTAL MALAYSIAN PRODUCTION.

LOW WORLD TIN DEMAND MAY RESULT IN LOWER ILMENITE PRODUCTION IN THE FUTURE.); MMC EXTRACTS ILMENITE FROM ITS OWN TIN MINING OPERATIONS. BEH MINERALS OPERATES A SINGLE PROCESSING PLANT NEAR IPOH WHICH PROCESSES TIN MINING TAILINGS, KNOWN AS AMANG PROVIDED BY ABOUT 10 TIN MINING COMPANIES. EXPORT GRADE MALAYSIAN ILMENITE HAS 54% TIO2, 7% FE2O3, 0.02% CR2O3 AND 0.02% V2O5. A SYNTHETIC RUTILE PLANT (60 000 TPA) OPERATED AT IPOH DURING 1976-77 BUT THE PLANT NEVER REOPENED AND HAS REPORTEDLY BEEN SOLD TO CHINA. (ADAMS, 84).
