  • THE TRACTS PROSPECTED ARE ON THE LOWER BENCHES OF STONY CREEK VALLEY AND ADJACENT SLOPES. THE BENCHES AND SLOPES ARE MADE UP LARGELY OF THE HELENMODE MEMBER OF THE ERWIN FORMATION, BUT ON THE WESTERN RIDGE THE MEMBER IS OVERLAIN BY RESIDUAL CLAYS OF THE SHADY.DOLOMITE, WHICH FORM TWO SMALL THIN REMIANTS. THE AREA IS TRAVERSED BY A SMALL FAULT DOWNTHROWN TO THENORTHWEST WHICH IS PART OF THE EXTENSIVE SYSTEM OF FAULTS IN THIS PART OF HOLSTON MOUNTAIN.
