Comments on the geologic information

  • THE PEGMATITE CONSISTS OF 1) FINE-GRAINED PLAGIOCLASE, QUARTZ, AND PERTHITE BORDER ZONE; 2) A POORLY DEFINED WALL ZONE OF MEDIUM- TO COARSE-GRAINED PLAGIOCLASE QUARTZ-PERTHITE PEGMATITE WITH SCATTERED BIOTITE; 3) AN INTERMEDIATE ZONE OF MEDIUM- TO COARSE- GRAINED PLAGIOCLASE, QUARTZ, AND PERTHITE WITH MINOR MUSCOVITE AND ACCESSORY BIOTITE AND GARNET; AND 4) A DISCONTINUOUS CORE OF 3 PODLIKE SEGMENTS OF COARSE TO VERY COARSE GRAINED, MASSIVE PERTHITE AND KAOLINIZED PLAGIOCLASE WITH INTERSTITIAL MASSIVE QUARTZ. THE PODS RANGE FROM 1 TO 3 FEET IN THICKNESS AND 7 TO 20 FEET LONG.

Economic information about the deposit and operations

Development status Occurrence
Commodity type Non-metallic
Significant No
Discovery year 1942
Discoverer Oscar Pittman

Mining district

District name Bryson City Feldspar District

Ownership information

  • Type Operator
    Owner Oscar Pittman

Comments on the production information

  • IF ANY FELDSPAR WAS PRODUCED, NO RECORD IS AVAILABLE.

Comments on the workings information

  • THE MAIN WORKING IS A 21-FOOT OPEN CUT LEADING TO A 44-FOOT LONG ADIT, WITH RELATED DRIFTS AND CHAMBERS. FOUR OTHER SMALL CUTS, A SHALLOW STOPE, AND 4-FOOT ADIT COMPRISE THE OTHER WORKINGS.

Comments on development

  • ECON.COM: MOST OF FELDSPAR IS SO INTERGROWN WITH QUARTZ THAT RECOVERY OF NO. 2 GRADE BY HANDSORTING WOULD BE COSTLY.
