  • CONTACT ZONE IS EXPOSED IN THE FACE OF THE CUT. IT VARIES FROM LESS THAN ONE FOOT TO OVER 3 FEET IN WIDTH AND IS COMPOSED OF THIN LAYERS OF DARK-BROWN VERMICULITE, A ZONE OF MASS-FIBER ASBESTOS MIXED WITH VARING AMOUNTS OF TALC AND A THIN ZONE OF SCHISTOSE TALC. THE VERMICULITE ZONE IS IN SHARP CONTACT WITH QUARTZ-BIOTITE GNEISS AND THE TALC ZONE IS IN SHARP CONTACT WITH THE PERIDOTITE. A QUARTZ VEIN 20 FEET LONG IS PRESENT IN THE CONTACT ZONE ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE BODY.
