Comments on the workings information

  • WORKINGS CONSISTED OF NUMEROUS SHALLOW PITS AND ADITS, MOST OF WHICH ARE CAVED OR INACCESSIBLE. ADITS WERE DRIVEN TO INTERSECT THE TALC LENSES AND THE MATERIAL REMOVED WITH A GRAVITY TRAM DOWN THE FACE OF THE MOUNTAIN. THE TALC LENSES WERE CONNECTED BY THIN SEAMS OF TALC.

Comments on development

  • THE NANTAHALA TALC AND MARBLE COMPANY AND THE NORTH CAROLINA TALC AND MINING COMPANY CARRIED ON OPERATIONS SEPARATELY AND THEIR HOLDINGS WERE EVENTUALLY COMBINED. OPERATIONAL RECORDS HAVE BEEN LOST AND NO RECORD OF PRODUCTION OR INDIVIDUAL HOLDINGS ARE NOT KNOWN TO EXIST. PRODUCTION RECORDS ARE ALSO UNAVAILABLE, BUT PRODUCTION IS KNOWN TO HAVE BEEN VERY LARGE. ; ECON.COM: MINES WERE WELL-DRAINED WITH NO WATER PROBLEMS
