    Length 21M
    Depth to bottom 107M

Controls for ore emplacement

  • Silicified Shear Zone. Some Stratabound Sulfide Lenses (Syngenetic?)

Comments on the geologic information

  • COGGINS MINE SOUTH WEST OF THE RUSSELL MINE AND IS SIMILAR IN MOST RESPECTS. THE COGGINS, HOWEVER, HAS LESS SILICIEOUS ALTERATIONS AND PERHAPS MORE CHLORITE. THE ARGILLITE IS DARK GRAY AND CONTAINS DISSEMINATED PYRITE AND PYRRHOTITE. THE ORE IS IN A SILICEOUS ZONE IN THE ARGILLITE CONTROLLED BY NE-TRENDING REVERSE FAULTS THAT HAVE PRODUCED SMALL SCALE DRAG-FOLDS. SOME SHEARING AND BRECCIATION OF THE SILICEOUS MATERIAL HAS OCCURRED AND IN SOME INSTANCES FRACTURES HAVE BEEN HEALED WITH CALCITE. JOINT SURFACES OF THE ARGILLITE ARE OFTEN COATED WITH PYRITE AND PYRRHOTITE.

    Overall depth 167M
    Overall length 55.78M
    Overall width 30M

Comments on the workings information

  • ONE INCLINED SHAFT WAS OPENED ON THE PROPERTY AND MOST OF THE DEVELOPMENT WAS CARRIED OUT FROM THIS SHAFT. SEVERAL SMALLER SHAFTS WERE SUNK ALONG THE STRIKE OF THE ORE ZONE. THE SHAFTS FORM A LINE STRIKING N 45 DEG E. SEVEN LEVELS WERE DEVELOPED, THE 100, 200, 250, 350, 450, AND 550. DRIFTING FOR AT LEAST 45 M ON EACH LEVEL ALLOWED DEVELOPMENT OF STOPES. LEVELS WERE DEVELOPED, THE 100, 200, AND 250 FOOT LEVELS. SOUTHERNMOST SHAFT IS 25 FT IN DIAMETER AND FILLED WITH WATER TO WITHIN 35 FT. OF THE SURFACE. THE NORTHERNMOST SHAFT IS 50 FT. LONG AND 30 FT. WIDE. DUMP MATERIAL IS OVERGROWN BUT A LARGE AMOUNT REMAINS.

Comments on development

  • SEVERAL EXPLORATION PROGRAMS WERE CARRIED OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH THOSE AT THE RUSSELL MINE, BY GULF RESOURCES, HAILE MINING COMPANY, TENNECO MINERALS, AND PIEDMONT MINING, FROM 1970-1993,
