Geologic structures

Type of structure Local
Structure description Folds Having Amplitudes And Wave Lengths Ranging 1 - 10 Ft. System Of Cross - Faults Show Apparent Strike - Slip Displacements Of 20 Ft. These Faults Displace The Ore Body, Slickensides Were Observed With A Low Pitch. One Post - Ore Reverse Fault On The 200 Ft. Level, It Dips 55 - 60 W, Net Slip Parallel To Dip.

Ore body information

  • General form LENTICULAR
    Strike N 40 W
    Dip 70 NE
    Plunge 62 - 65
    Thickness 2.44M
    Length 140.21M

Controls for ore emplacement

  • Zone Of Structual Disturbance Found Where East Dipping Foliation Lies Adjacent To West Dipping Foilation. This Zone Extents Through Newton Mine. Due To Lack Of Lithologic Correlation Across Strike, This Zone Is More Suggestive Of Fault Along The Axial Plane Of An Isoclinal Fold, Than A Zone Of Stretching And Displacement In An Over - Turned Limb Of A Major Anticline.

Comments on the geologic information

  • GEOL.DESC: THICK SERIES OF SCHISTS AND GREENSTONE OF LOW - RANK METAMORPHISM. GRADED BEDDING OBSERVED ON ROCKS DIPS STEEPLY EAST. CAPPING HIGHER, NEIGHBORING SAND, DIPPING WEST, - NO EVIDENCE OF DEFORMATION. THIS SEQUANCE LIES UNCONFORMABLY OVER OLDER ROCKS.

Deposit 1942 - 1943 U.S. BUREAU OF MINES PUT DOWN 5 DIAMOND DRILL HOLES TOTALING 4,258 FT. HOLE # 1 INTERSECTED THE 400 FT. LEVEL, # 2 ENCOUNTERED ORE, # 3 AND # 5 SHOWED ORE AT DEPTH, # 4 FAILED TO INTERSECT ORE, NORTH OF MAIN ORE BODY. GOOD INDICATIONS THAT THE BOTTOM OF THE SULFIDE LENS LIE CONSIDERABLY BELOW THE 550 FT. LEVEL OF THE MINE.
Deposit ORE BODY HAS MAXIMUM STRIKE LENGTH OF 460 FT., IT HAS BEEN MINED THROUGH A LENGTH DOWN - DIP OF ABOUT 600 FT. DRILLING HAS PROVED THAT THE ORE EXTENDS MORE THAN 800 FT. DOWN DIP FROM THE SURFACE. ORE BODY RAKES NORTHWARD, PITCH ANGLE CLOSE TO 77 DEG., PITCH LENGTH ABOUT 900 FT.
