  • PIT HAS BEEN WORKED SINCE ABOUT 1925. LEASED BY GLADDING, MCBEAN IN 1948. MAJOR PORTION OF CLAY IS SHIPPED TO THE LINCOLN PLANT OF GLADDING, MCBEAN FOR USE IN HEAVY CLAY PRODUCTS. THE CLAY BED RANGES FROM A FEW FEET TO 20 FT. IN THICKNESS AND IS ON THE EXTREME EASTERN EDGE OF THE IONE BASIN. THE LOCATION SHOWN IN THE REFERENCE IS "1.5 MILES S. 43 DEG. W (SHOULD BE E) OF IONE, ON S SIDE OF IONE-JACKSON ROAD" - POSSIBLY THE CORRECT LOCATION WOULD BE THE PIT SHOWN S. OF THE ROAD IN NE 1/4 SEC. 31 ON USGS QUAD. SUTTER CREEK, CALIF, 1957
