  • GEOL.DESC: BED OF MASSIVE METACHERT CONTAINING MANGANESE OXIDES AND PARTIALLY OXIDIZED REDDISH-BROWN MANGANESE GARNET; IS 1-4.5' THICK AND IS EXPOSED FOR A LENGTH OF 15'. IT LIES IN SERICITE SCHIST OF THE CALAVERAS FM. STRIKE IS N. 65 DEG. W., DIP IS 65 DEG. NE. MANGANESE OXIDE IS LOW GRADE, CONSISTING MAINLY OF PSILOMELANE, WITH CORES AND PATCHES OF LIMONITE, AND MUCH SILICA.

  • A PIT WAS DUG DURING WWI; IS 5' IN DIAMETER AND 3' DEEP. TUNNEL RECENTLY STARTED BELOW THE PIT BUT WAS NOT DRIVEN FAR ENOUGH TO STRIKE THE ORE BED.
