  • ACTIVE DURING 1880'S AND AGAIN AROUND 1915. VOLO MNG. CO. LEASED PROPERTY IN 1940 AND DURING 1941-42 SOME GOLD ORE MINED ON EXPERIMENTAL BASIS. SHUT DOWN IN 1942 BUT MILL REMAINED ACTIVE. REOPENED IN 1946 AND OPERATED ALMOST CONTINUOUSLY UNTIL 1953.

Deposit WORKED AS UNDERGROUND MINE UNTIL 1940. PYRITE, CALCITE AND TALC ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THE GOLD. ORE IS LOW GRADE, CONTAINING $2 TO $4 PER TON. DEPOSIT CONTAINS SEAMS OF SECONDARY ALBITE AND QUARTZ AS WELL AS A FEW BASIC DIKES. RICH POCKETS OF FREE GOLD HAVE BEEN FOUND.
