  • GEOL.DESC: BLACK OXIDE ORE OCCURS IN POCKETS AND IRREGULAR MASSES IN MASSIVE, YELLOW-BROWN QUARTZOSE CHERT. THE ORE IS PSILOMELANE AND INCLUDES PYROLUSITE. THE MASSIVE CHERT IS OVERLAIN BY THIN-BEDDED GREEN CHERT, MIXED WITH SOME WHITE AND RED CHERT. THE CHERT IS BOUND BY A FAULT CONTACT WITH SHALE AND SANDSTONE.

General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit PROSPECT ON MF-279. IT SEEMS POSSIBLE THAT MOST OF THE ORE MAY HAVE BEEN REMOVED. ONLY 5 OR 10 TONS ARE IN SIGHT. SOME OF THE ORE SEEN MIGHT RUN 50 PERCENT MANGANESE BUT MOST OF THE MATERIAL EXPOSED CONTAINS YELLOW-BROWN CHERT WHICH WOULD LOWER THE GRADE CONSIDERABLY.
