  • GEOL.DESC: ORE ZONE IS A SERIES OF MANGANIFEROUS IRON ORE BEDS IN CHERT ENCLOSED IN GREENSTONE OF THE FRANCISCAN GROUP. THE ORE ZONE IS 25 FT, THICK EXPOSED 30 FT ALONG THE N.W. STRIKE, AND DIPS 40 N.E. THE LOWER AND MIDDLE ZONES ARE SOFT RED IMPURE IRON OXIDE WITH LAYERS OF OPALINE IRON MANGANESE ORE. GREEN CHERT BEDS HAVE ELLIPSOIDAL MANGANESE NODULES UP TO 6 INCHES IN LENGTH AND 1 1/2 INCHES THICK.
