  • GEOL.DESC: ABOUT 350 ACRES OF NICKEL-BEARING LATERITIC SOIL IS UNDERLAIN BY SAXONITE THAT IS SLIGHTLY ALTERED TO SERPENTINITE THROUGHOUT AREA, AND ESPECIALLY ALONG CONTACTS AND IN SHEAR ZONES WHERE IT HAS BEEN CONVERTED TO DARK GREENISH-BLACK SERPENTINITE. CHROMITE WAS MINED FROM LENSES OF DUNITE ENCLOSED IN SERPENTINIZED SAXONITE. LATERITE RANGES FROM LESS THAN 1 FT. TO AT LEAST 7 FT., MANTLES THE SAXONITE. LATERITE IS AT LEAST 5 FT. DEEP, IS ROCKY AND DEEP REDDISH-BROWN IN COLOR.
