SAXONITE IS CAPPED LOCALLY, ESPECIALLY ON RIDGE TOPS BY A MANTLE OF DEEP REDDISH-BROWN ROCKY LATERITE, WHICH IS VARIABLE IN DEPTH, AND MAY BE AS MUCH AS 10 FT. THICK. LATERITE WAS DERIVED FROM UNDERLYING SAXONITE, BUT WAS NOT SAMPLED FOR NICKEL ANALYSES.
