Comments on the geologic information

  • GEOL.DESC: AREA IS UNDERLAIN BY PERIDOTITE, WHICH IS CONSIDERABLY SHEARED AND LOCALLY ALTERED TO SERPENTINITE. ALL CHROMITE ORE BODIES LIE WITHIN SHEARED PERIDOTITE. LATERITE MANTLE LYING UPON THE PERIDOTITE IS ROCKY AND AT NO PLACE DOES IT SUPPORT STANDS OF RELATIVELY TALL TREES. BEST GRADE OF LATERITE ( 0.60 PERCENT NICKEL ) OCCURS AS NARROW 100 FT. BELT ALONG WILMER ROAD, WHICH FOLLOWS RIDGE CREST AND PART OF OLD KLAMATH PENEPLANE. LATERITE IN BELT AVERAGES 5 FT. IN DEPTH. BELOW RIDGE CREST, ON E. SIDE, OCCURS ABOUT 200 ACRES OF ROCKY LATERITE, PERHAPS LESS THAN 3 FT. IN DEPTH, WHOSE GRADE IN NICKEL IS NOT KNOWN.
