  • GEOL.DESC: AREA IS UNDERLAIN BY ELONGATED BODY OF ULTRAMAFIC ROCKS THAT IS INTRUSIVE INTO VARIOUS SEDIMENTARY UNITS OF FRANCISCAN FORMATION. ULTRAMAFIC BODY IS MAINLY COMPOSED OF PERIDOTITE AND PYROXENITE, AND CONTAINS MASSES OF GABBRO AND NARITE, OF WHICH FORMER ARE LOCALLY SERPENTINIZED. ATOP ULTRAMAFIC MASS, ABOVE 2400 FT. CONTOUR IS MANTLE OF NICKEL-BEARING, ROCKY REDDISH-BROWN LATERITE THAT IS QUITE THIN, PROBABLY AT MOST A FEW FT. DEEP.
