Comments on the location information

  • The original political location for this record was Kittitas cnty. GNIS shows two Fourth Creeks, the one in Chelan county, runs NS and does not extend into Kittitas cnty. The mine is said to be located about 3/4 miles E of Fourth Creek. This description may be in error because because that would place it on the next creek east, Hardscrabble. Also, the description of 4.25 mi SSW of Colcuch Lake and the 3 mi SE of Mt Stuart place it in Chelan cnty. The PLSS coordinates agree with the lat/long and UTM, (in Chelan county). Mindat.org describes it as in Kittitas county but no acompanying lat/long, so the county might have just been copied from MRDS. MRDS record says loc is estimated from map in Gualtieri, a 1918 reference. That reference is titled "Chelan, King, and Kittitas counties". So the evidence is contradictory. The majority of the evidence indicates a Chelan county location so the county name was so changed.
