Economic information

Controls for ore emplacement

  • Fractures; Junction Of 2 Faults

Comments on the geologic information

  • FAULT CONTACT BETWEEN CAMBRIAN CALCITE AND LIMESTONE CONTAINS INCLINED SHAFT AND STOPE. FAULT ZONE STRIKES NZOE, DIPS 45-50 NW. BLOCKY FRACTURED OUTCROP OF MEDIUM-TO THICK- BEDDED WHITE COARSELY CRYSTALLINE MARBLE FORMS THE HANGING WALL AT THE WORKINGS. THE FAULT ZONE IS HIGHLY BRECCIATED AND CONSISTS OF PEBBLE-SIZED FRAGMENTS OF QUARTZITE AND LIMESTONE,SUS PENDED IN A MATRIX OF CLAY, CALCITE, AND ABUNDANT FE AND MN OXIDES. THE FAULT ZONE IS WELL-MARKED BY ABUNDANT FE AND MN OXIDES AND CONTAINS JASPERY DARK BROWN GOSSAN AND EARTHY MATERIAL. SOME BRIGHT YELLOW AND ORANGE OXIDES ARE ALSO PRESENT IN THE ZONE. ALTERED LIMESTONE BOULDERS ON THE DUMP ARE REPLACED BY JASPER AND OTHERWISE SILICIFIED. SOME OXIDIZED PYRITE OCCURS IN THE WALLROCKS AND BRECCIA ZONE. SULFIDE-BEARING QUARTZ VEIN MATERIAL WAS SAMPLED. DRILL CORE IN AREA CONSISTS OF MARBELIZED, BLEACHED LIMESTONE. SOME COARSE WHITE NEEDLES OF CERUSSITE WERE FOUND ON FRACTUR SURFACES IN SOME OF THE MARBLE CORE. SOME OF THE LIMESTONE
  • IS EPIDOTIZED OR SILICATED TO A WEAK LIGHT GREEN SKARN. REMAINING CORE CONSISTS OF SILTY QUARTZITE AND A DARK GREEN DIORITIC (OR GABBROIC) DIKE ROCK, WHICH, ALTHOUGH IR CONTAINS NO SULFIDES, IS SLIGHTLY EPIDOTIZED OR CHLORITIZED.

Economic information about the deposit and operations

Development status Past Producer
Commodity type Metallic
Deposit size Small
Significant No

Mining district

District name Chief

Land status

Ownership category BLM Administrative Area

Comments on the production information

  • A SMALL AMOUNT OF ORE WAS PRODUCED IN 1928.

Comments on the workings information

  • SEVERAL SHALLOW SHAFTS AND PITS, ONE DEEP SHAFT. RIDGECREST WORKINGS CONSIST OF PARTIALLY CAVED INCLINED SHAFT WITH CONNECTING STOPE. MAIN SHAFT HAS REMAINS OF HEADFRAME AND TRACK (1983).

Comments on development

  • SMALL BASIN AREA JUST NORTH OF THESE MINES WAS DRILLED BY TEXAS GULF INTERNATIONAL IN ABOUT 1981. THIS IS THE MAIN SITE OF MOST RECENT EXPLORATION ACTIVITY IN THE DISTRICT.

General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit ORE IS FOUND IN FE-STAINED, BRECCIATED QUARTZITE AND LIMESTONE, REHEALED WITH COMB QUARTZ, LOCATED BETWEEN INTERSECTING FAULTS. ORE IS A MASSIVE GREENISH TO BROWNISH VUGGY AGGREGATE OF ARSENOPYRITE REPLACED BY SCORODITE, IN TURN REPLACED BY A BROWN MICACEOUS MINERAL.
