Deposit SHAFTS SUNK ON A NE-STRIKING FAULT IN THE CHISHOLM SHALE AND ON A NW-STRIKING FAULT BETWEEN THE HIGHLAND PEAK LIMESTONE AND CHISHOLM SHALE. PRESENCE OF GOSSAN BRECCIA SUPPORTS A FAULT-RELATED ORIGIN. SHAFT NO. 1 (WESTERNMOST) EXPOSES A 2 FT WIDE REPLACEMENT VEIN WHICH PARALLELS THE BEDDING OF THE HOST LIMESTONE. THE VEIN STRIKES N40E, DIPS 60SE AND HAS A SHARP CONTACT WITH ENCLOSING HOST ROCK, WHICH APPEARS LITTLE ALTERED. VEIN IS COMPLETELY OXIDIZED, AND CONSISTS OF LIMONITIC AND MN-RICH GOSSAN WITH SOME CALCITE AND SILICA VEINING AND VUG FILLINGS. CALCITE (AND PROBABLY SOME SMITHSONITE) ALSO CEMENTS GOSSAN BRECCIA FOUND ON THE DUMP. THE GOSSAN IS QUITE DENSE AND MAY CONTAIN PB OR ZN MINERALS, BUT NO UNOXIDIZED MINERALS WERE OBSERVED. SHAFT NO. 2, (SOUTHERNMOST): UPPER SHAFT EXPLORES SIMILAR REPLACEMENT VEIN 5-6 FT WIDE STRIKING N30E, DIP 80SE. THE VEIN POSSIBLY PARALLELS THE BEDDING OR CROSSCUTS THE BEDDING AT A LOW ANGLE. THE GOSSAN "VEIN" IS NOT AS PURE OR HIGHGRADE AS THAT
Deposit OBSERVED IN NO. 1. INSTEAD, IT IS SPOTTY, PINCHES OUT AND CONTAINS LIMESTONE LENSES ALONG FRACTURES PARALLEL TO BEDDING. SHAFT NO. 3 (NORTHERNMOST): LOWER SHAFT IS INCLINED ALONG STRIKE OF N10-20E (POORLY EXPOSED) TRENDING GOSSAN REPLACEMENT VEIN WHICH IS PROBABLY A CONTINUATION OF THE VEIN OBSERVED IN NO. 2. ADIT (OR INCLINE) LOCATED BELOW AND INTERSECTING THE SHAFT IS CAVED. DUMP CONSISTS OF LIMESTONE WASTE ROCK AND LIMONITIC MN-GOSSAN WHICH IN GENERAL IS LIGHT-WEIGHT, PUNKY, AND IN PART SILICEOUS. SAMPLE 1745 WAS TAKEN FROM THIS SHAFT.
