Deposit "The Centennial Mine, the first known lode mine in the district, was opened in 1876 (Beeeler, 1906, p. 11). Several drifts and prospect pits were developed in iron stained hornblendic gneisses and schists about one mile south of the village of Centennial. Free gold was present associated with shear zones and quartz veins, and a total production of at least $90,000 in free milling gold ore was realized. Ore productioon ceased when the workings penetrated a "flat fault" which suppoedly cut off the mineralized zone." (McCallum, 1968, p. 10)
