Deposit BATATAL PHYLLITE RESTS ON MOEDU QUARTZITE AND IS OVERLAIN BY CAUE ITABIRITE. RELATIVELY CONTINUOUS BEDS OF TOURMALINITE IN THE PHYLLITE CONTAIN BEST MINERALIZATION AND ARE RESTRICTED TO A ZONE 5-20 M THICK ALONG 15 KM STRIKE LENGTH. ORE OCCURS IN TWO FORMS AS PYRRHOTITE-BEARING AMPHIBOLITE AND QUARTZ VEINS (90% OF THE ORE). FUNDAO OCCURS IN BANDED CARBONATES; VALE QUEMTEM OCCURS IN SERICITIC PHYELITE OR GRAPHITIC PHYLLITES; WSW, SW, MAIN, AND NE ARE QUARTZ VEINS IN GRAPHITIC PHYLLITE, BARRIL AND GONGO OCCUR BETWEEN QUARTZITE AND ITABINITE; JOPLING IS IN ITABIRITE.
