Comments on the geologic information

  • STIBNITE OCCURS IN FRACTURES AND FAULTS ALONG THE CONTACT BETWEEN LIMESTONE AND A DIABASE DIKE, AS SMALL PODS, STREAKS, ROSETTES, AND INDIVIDUAL CRYSTALS. STIBNITE IS DISSEMINATED THROUGH THE LIMESTONE IN THE END OF THE EAST CROSS CUT FROM MAIN ADIT. CINNABAR ALSO OCCURS AS SCATTERED BLEBS AND SINGLE CRYSTALS.

General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit CINNABAR OCCURS WITH WHITE CALCITE AND CHALCEDONY VEINLETS IN GRAY LIMESTONE, QUARTZ SANSTONE AND OLIVE SILTSTONE (BASED ON A FEW DUMP SPECIMENS). THE WORKINGS FOLLOW EAST-WEST FAULT AND GOUGE ZONES WHICH APPEAR NEARLY VERTICAL. THE ROCKS ARE LOCALLY SLIGHTLY SILICIFIED AND IRON-STAINED. BAILEY ET AL (1984) REPORT THAT THE SHEARS DIP STEEPLY NORTHWARD. SPECIMENS OF BROKEN, IRON-STAINED QUARTZITE ON THE DUMP CONTAIN CINNABAR IN CRYSTALS AS MUCH AS 1 MM IN DIAMETER ASSOCIATED WITH ABUNDANT QUARTZ VEINLETS.; MODEL NAME COULD ALSO BE: SIMPLE SB.
Deposit Discovery Year: 1880'S OR BEFORE
