Subject category Comment text
Deposit SURFACE WORKINGS ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT; 3 FIELD OBSERV
Deposit UNLIKE MOST SULFUR AREAS IN THIS DISTRICT, THE SULFUR HERE OCCURS IN THE VICINITY OF THE FAULT ZONE THAT SEPARATES- TERTIARY SEDIMENTARY ROCKS ON THE WEST FROM VOLCANIC ROCKS ON- THE EAST. THE SULFUR OCCURS ON FRACTURE SURFACES AND IMPREGNA-TES ALTERED ROCK IN THE VICINITY OF A SHEAR ZONE THAT DIPS ABO-UT 75 NW, AND, IN THE CENTRAL PART OF THE PIT, STRIKES N50E. M-OST OF THE NW (HANGING WALL) SIDE OF THE SHEAR ZONE IS TILTED -GRAVEL BEDS, SUGGESTING THAT THERE HAS BEEN RECENT ACTIVITY AL-ONG THIS FAULT ZONE. THE HOST ROCK APPEARS TO BE A TUFFACEOUS -VOLCANIC ROCK BUT MOST OF THE ROCK IS EXTENSIVELY ALTERED TO O-PAL, QUARTZ, AND CRISTOBALITE. THE SULFUR-BEARING ZONE IS PROB-ABLY AS MUCH AS 20 FT WIDE AND IS ESTIMATED TO CONSIST OF UP T-O 20% SULFUR.
