Comments on the workings information

  • TUNNEL AND INCLINED SHAFT IN 1908; VERTICAL SHAFT; OTHER SHAFTS AND THOUSANDS OF FEET OF WORKINGS.

Comments on development

  • CLAIMS WERE LOCATED IN 1905 ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE SEVEN TROUGHS CANYON AND SOLD TO THE DISTRICT'S MAIN PROMOTER L. A. FRIEDMAN IN 1906-1907, WHO SHORTLY THEREAFTER ORGANIZED THE KINDERGARTEN MINING CO., WHICH BOUGHT THE ADJACENT WESTERN CLAIMS (LOOKOUT 3, 5, 6) FROM THE SEVEN TROUGHS THERIEN CO. SEVEN TROUGHS KINDERGARTEN MILL WAS CONSTRUCTED IN 1908. MINING CONTINUED SPORADICALLY THROUGHOUT THE 1920'S WHILE THE DEEP TUNNEL WAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION, AND IN THE 1930'S THE DUMPS AND TAILINGS WERE REWORKED. THE COMPANY WAS REORGANIZED AND RENAMED SEVERAL TIMES (I.E., NEVADA STATE GOLD MINES WAS SUCCESSOR TO THE SEVEN TROUGHS MINING CO.), AND MUCH OF THE LATER MINING WORK WAS DONE BY LESSEES.

Deposit SOFT, ALTERED AMYGDALOIDAL BASALT AND DENSE OLIVINE BASALT WHICH CROSSCUTS THE SOFTER FLOW ROCK. MASSES OF SOFT, LIGHT RHYOLITIC ROCK OCCUR SPORADICALLY ALONG THE VEIN. AT THE NE END OF THE MINE, THE VEIN HAS BEEN CUT OFF BY A ZONE OF N-S FISSURES (NON-ORE-BEARING). VEINS ARE GENERALLY SOFT FRIABLE MATERIAL, SUGARY QUARTZ WITH COARSE VISIBLE GOLD, AND OTHER MINOR SULFIDES. VEINS HAVE BEEN CRUSHED BY LATER FAULT MOVEMENT. ALTHOUGH THE VEINS THEMSELVES ARE CONTINUOUS FOR THOUSANDS OF FEET, ONLY SMALL PORTIONS OF THEM CONTAIN ORE GRADE MATERIAL. VEINS FOLLOW FAULT ZONES. LARGEST OREBODY FOUND IN THE DISTRICT WAS IN THE KINDERGARTEN VEIN AND CONTAINED 100000 TONS OF ORE. ORE WAS STOPED HERE CONTINUOUSLY ALONG STRIKE FOR 500 FT. THE GREATEST VERTICAL EXTENT OF MINERALIZATION WAS ALSO AT THE KINDERGARTEN WHERE AU-AG ORE WAS STOPED OVER A VERTICAL INTERVAL OF 800 FT. ORE BODIES WERE LOCALIZED WHERE STRIKE-SLIP CROSS-FAULTS INTERSECTED THE MAIN NNE-TRENDING STRUCTURE.
Deposit THE KINDERGARTEN AND WIHUJA MINES BOTH LIE ON THE SAME VEIN AND THEIR WORKINGS ARE CONNECTED. THE KINDERGARTEN MINE (KINDERGARTEN MINING CO.) IS DEVELOPED BY A TUNNEL, INCLINED SHAFT AND VERTICAL SHAFT. THE WIHUJA (THERIEN MINING CO.) IS OPENED BY AN INCLINED SHAFT. OTHER LEASES ON THERIEN GROUND INCLUDE THE BARD AND JESS, TYLER, AND SANDIFER LEASES. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT; 3 FIELD OBSERV
